This three-part webinar will focus on providing information regarding the specific characteristics of long-term adolescent ELs, adolescent refugees, and adolescent students with limited or interrupted formal education in a MTSS framework.

Objectives

Participants will learn to identify:

  • the characteristics and educational needs of long-term adolescent ELs.
  • effective educational practices and interventions to address long-term adolescent ELs’ literacy and academic gaps.
  • the characteristics and educational needs of refugee adolescent ELs.
  • effective educational practices and interventions to address refugee adolescent ELs’ literacy and academic gaps.
  • the culturally responsive practices necessary to support acculturation.
  • the characteristics and educational needs of Adolescent ELs with limited or interrupted education.
  • effective educational practices and interventions to address adolescent ELs with limited or interrupted education.

Target Audience

ESL Teachers, ESL Administrators, Content Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Building Administrators, Counselors

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
