Mouth Morphemes: More Than Lip Service

Mouth Morphemes are an important, yet complicated grammatical feature of American Sign Language. When used correctly, they convey adjectival, adverbial or other descriptive meaning in sign language. In this workshop, native signer, Gina Grabher, and seasoned interpreter, Bethany Koubsky CI/CT, will lead participants through a variety of activities to improve recognition of mouth morphemes and how to apply them in sign language interpretation.
Objectives:
- Identity mouth morphemes
- Describe what mouth morphemes convey in sign language
- Demonstrate how to apply mouth morphemes in sign language interpretation
Target Audience
- Educational Sign Language Interpreters and Interveners who provide interpreting services in Pennsylvania K-12 classrooms.
- Teachers of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing who have at least intermediate American Sign Language Skills.
