The course is designed to support educators in utilizing music as a tool to engage students in computer science (CS) learning. Participants will discover opportunities for using CS to reinforce core concepts in music education and for using music to reinforce key CS concepts.
Participants will explore resources and strategies for integrating cross-content connections in music and computer science instruction. Educators will set a goal and share artifacts to demonstrate their progress in developing and implementing a lesson activity.
Objectives
Educators engaged in the course will:
- Utilize Computer Science (CS) Standards and identify potential intersections between CS standards and music education, fostering interdisciplinary connections.
- Explore tools and resources that can help educators integrate music and CS.
- Create and share a lesson activity that is standard aligned, universally designed and culturally responsive to introduce computer science concepts through music.
- Develop a strategic action plan for the implementation of CS-infused music education lessons within their classrooms.
- Reflect and articulate next steps to advocate for computer science.
Target Audience
K-8 educators involved with computer science instruction including: General education teachers, content-area teachers, special education teachers, English language learners teachers, librarians, specialists, instructional coaches.
Participants do NOT have to be designated CS or STEM teachers.
