This multifaceted course is for educators teaching academic content to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The initial unit focuses on anchoring instruction in PA alternate eligible content (AEC). Standards and AEC will be discussed in detail. Connection between AEC and essential elements is described. The next part navigates the ‘instructional waters.' A tour of the PA DLM website featuring key resources that support instruction is provided. The final section focuses on setting instructional targets for students, collecting data and measuring IEP progress. Integrating IEP goals into instruction and making instructional decisions based upon data is presented.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the connection between Alternate Eligible Content (AEC) and Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) Essential Elements (EE) and how to use the available resources to ensure standards aligned instruction.
- Navigate the PA DLM website to identify key resources to support instruction and assessment and enhance professional learning through available modules.
- Determine how to identify individual student learning targets, collect data, and make instructional decisions based upon data.
