This multifaceted course is for educators teaching academic content to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The initial unit focuses on anchoring instruction in PA alternate eligible content (AEC). Standards and AEC will be discussed in detail. Connection between AEC and essential elements is described. The next part navigates the ‘instructional waters.' A tour of the PA DLM website featuring key resources that support instruction is provided. The final section focuses on setting instructional targets for students, collecting data and measuring IEP progress. Integrating IEP goals into instruction and making instructional decisions based upon data is presented.
