This self-paced five module online course provides participants with relevant information regarding the role of a Job Coach to support students in community-based work settings.

Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the responsibilities and competencies needed to support transition-aged students build work-related skills in community-based settings
  • Identify relevant Labor Laws and implications when supporting students in employment settings
  • Apply and implement strategies to provide community-based employment education to students with disabilities
  • Reflect on personal skills and practices to identify strengths and areas for growth

Paraprofessionals, other support staff, teachers, transition coordinators, special education directors, or anyone interested in this topic.

Additional Info

  1. The course opens on March 14, 2023 and closes on April  25, 2023.
  2. Participants who complete the course will be awarded 5 hours of continuing education credits/instructional hours if they meet all requirements (should they wish to receive a credits).
  3. The course consists of five (5) modules (plus a short welcome module).
  4. Each module contains an overview page, a folder with supplemental materials and resources, a video playlist, an activity, and a quiz.
  5. For each module, participants must view pages, resources, and videos, complete all components of the activity, and earn at least 80% on the quiz (three attempts are permitted).
  6. Each module is estimated to take about 45 min to 1 hour to complete, however, it may vary depending on the participant (i.e., pace, background knowledge, etc.)
