Using input from parents in the Families to the MAX Network (F2MAX), this session will explore the ideas of presuming competence, high expectations, and leading change. Insights, information, and strategies will be discussed to share how these core ideas can support collaboration between families and schools, while supporting the learning and development of students with disabilities.

Participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the importance of the guiding principles of presuming competence and having high expectations.
  • Identify strategies to increase collaboration on school teams between parents and professionals.
  • Discuss the implications of networking and sharing of experiences in helping families navigate special education.
