The purpose of this online course is to provide guidance to early intervention professionals for the implementation of routines based interventions. It uses the two concepts, fundamental to early intervention, which are emphasis on natural environments and a naturalistic teaching approach called routines-based intervention, also known as activity based instruction or embedded instruction.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Describe the importance of having routines-based interventions in a natural environment.
  • Implement the principles of adult learning theory to support families in their learning ability for implementing routines-based intervention.
  • Provide valuable support and information to facilitate caregiver competence in teaching functional skills during daily routines and activities.
  • Describe naturalistic teaching strategies for effective home visits that are simple to integrated into a family’s routines and activities.

Early Intervention Service Providers and staff, staff in early childhood programs across Pennsylvania programs, and family members
