How the Growing Brain Influences Relationships, Behavior, and Play

Decades of research indicate that the early years of life are a period of exponential brain development, characterized by great opportunity and vulnerability, dependent on the relationships and environment in which the child is growing. This training will examine how the brain develops from birth to 5 years old and provide strategies to support healthy brain development across developmental areas.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Identify and describe how early experiences can affect brain development.
2. Identify the role of relationships and attachment in social-emotional development.
3. Identify that all behavior has meaning and knowing where a child is on the developmental ladder will help to figure out the behavior.
4. Identify important skills children learn through the various stages of play.

Target Audience

This training is intended for Infant Toddler Early Intervention staff, Preschool Early Intervention staff, and early childhood education professionals. Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event.
