Efficient assessment practices that easily link to interventions are a key practice in an effective multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). In this training, participants will use a variety of data sources (e.g., screening data, curriculum-based measurement data, and curriculum-based assessment data) in conjunction with the problem solving process to identify student needs and match them with appropriate, evidence-based interventions at the group and individual levels. The goal of the Assessment for Intervention training is to prepare school psychologists and other practitioners to better participate in assessment and data-teaming roles within MTSS.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify the elements of precise problem statements and how to collect data to inform precise problem statements
  • Define and describe the stages of the learning hierarchy
  • Identify how to analyze universal and group level data and match them to interventions
  • Identify how to use CBM and CBA data to conduct diagnostic assessments and identify specific targets for intervention
  • Identify how to use CBM and CBA data to match interventions to the stages of the learning hierarchy
  • List multiple methods for interpreting progress monitoring data (aimline, ROI, trials to mastery, and SGPs) and data-decision rules for adjusting interventions
  • Describe and list ways to troubleshoot and intensify interventions when progress monitoring data suggests interventions are not effective
