Participants will learn how the gaps in vocabulary in middle school students, particularly for English language learners and low-income students, interfere with comprehension of content area texts and impact negatively on student engagement. Participants will be introduced to the Word Generation curriculum to include a review of lesson implementation and effective instructional strategies to increase academic language and discourse and improve overall behavior and social-emotional learning.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to….
- Demonstrate conceptual underpinnings of the word generation curriculum through case study examples
- Identify the most effective strategies for enhancing engagement and academic language outcomes
- Work collaboratively to identify team-based needs, implementation priorities, and potential obstacles
- List immediate action steps necessary for beginning adoption and fidelity of implementation

Word Generation Series Teams, Administrators, General and Special Education Teachers, ESL Providers, Reading Specialists, Speech/Language Therapists, Tiered Providers, Paraprofessionals
