This training lays the foundation of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) developed UDL, a framework that recognizes learner variability and is a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone – not a single, one-size-fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches to teaching and learning. Using UDL optimizes learning opportunities for all. Participants will learn the research behind UDL as well as the practical applications that UDL has on lesson design. Finally, technology tools that support both flexible and inclusive education will be reviewed and discussed.
Objectives
Participants will:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the UDL framework
2. Design lessons using the UDL framework
3. Analyze classroom videos and case studies through the UDL lens
4. Identify barriers that impact lesson design and create appropriate solutions using the UDL framework
