Early Numeracy in the Primary Grades
Algebraic Concepts in the Early Grades
Thursday March 05, 2020 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
This session will engage participants to help all students to develop algebraic thinking skills in young students. Participants will examine how establishing number sense and application of mathematical properties in the early grades relates to algebraic concepts they will encounter throughout mathematics and leading up to algebra.
- Make connections between early number sense and algebraic concepts
- Apply properties of mathematics to early mathematics algorithms and make connections to their applications in algebra
- Investigate techniques for improving students’ use of mental strategies in mathematics
