This workshop will address ways interpreters can, not only maintain but improve their skills, as well as suggestions for on-going skill development. Participants will be provided with the
tools necessary to take their interpreting skills to the next level. There will be hands-on
practice for participants as well as many examples of skill development given during the
workshop. This workshop will challenge you to look at your work through a whole new lens!
Objectives
Participants will:
- Identify strategies for successful sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
- Define clarifying/miscue repair techniques
- Define gender differences as they relate to interpreting
- Apply clarifying techniques for both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
Target Audience
PA Educational Interpreters working in the K-12 setting, PA Teachers of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and are fluent in American Sign Language.
Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
