Module 6 addresses the research base for teaching comprehension, the reasons why children have difficulty with comprehension, and approaches for teaching comprehension at the phrase, sentence, paragraph, and passage levels. (Focus: All grades)
Objectives
Module 6 Attendees will:
- Understand the major factors that influence comprehension.
- Explore the challenges of “academic language”
- Differentiate among the instructional strategies
- Summarize important research findings on comprehension strategy instruction.
Target Audience
Teachers of reading and spelling, including literacy consultants, coaches, reading specialists, special education teachers, regular education teachers, and general and special education administrators.
Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
Target Audience
All participants are required to take Module 1 prior to participation in Modules 2 through 12.
