35. Clear a Space at the Table: Engaging Students in SW-PBIS/MTSS
Session Dates
Thursday March 02, 2023 2:15 PM - 3:15 PM - Hershey Lodge and Convention Center
Closed
Student engagement is a critical component of effective and culturally relevant Multi-tiered Systems of Support and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, especially in secondary schools. Developmentally, adolescents are eager to play an integral role in decision making specific to their school and community experiences. Engaging students in the planning, decision-making and implementation of school wide efforts, creates opportunities to cultivate youth-adult partnerships, build mutually trusting relationships, and share leadership and implementation responsibilities. When youth are given true decision-making opportunities, they are more likely to experience a sense of ownership and engage more fully in the school experience. This session will offer examples of how students have been involved with implementation efforts and interacted with school, district, and state level data, offering their insights on the nature of certain areas of opportunity and potential solutions.
Target Audience
General education and special education administrators and teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, professional development staff, and families of students with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event. Contact: Debra Jordan at (610) 878-7224 or
