For this session, the speaker will summarize decades of research on relations between language and literacy outcomes at various stages of development for children. The session will also focus on language diversity, in particular, nonmainstream dialects of American English. The speaker will detail empirical research findings on relations between nonmainstream dialect use and literacy achievement.

Target Audience

General education and special education administrators and teachers, paraprofessionals, school psychologists, professional development staff, and families of students with disabilities are encouraged to attend.
