To support Pennsylvania’s future economic and business growth, and to remain competitive, Pennsylvania must grow its supply of skilled workers. Over the next decade, most good paying jobs in Pennsylvania, and across the country, will require some form of education or training, especially in fast-growing fields of Computer Science (CS) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The career pathways look different for different students, and a one-size-fits-all approach to education and training will not work.

The Pennsylvania Computer Science for All (CSForAll) Summit offers educators, STEM leaders, and stakeholders the opportunity to share valuable computer science tools and resources; expand their knowledge base; and fine tune their skillsets, so that they can support and provide students with computer science experiences. The Summit will specifically focus on equitably serving historically under-served populations including students with disabilities, English Learners, and females.

Educators and STEM leaders collaborate and build on the connections of their valuable computer science knowledge so that the most recent trainings and tools are available for schools throughout the commonwealth.

Objectives

  1. Define the Vision of Computer Science in Pennsylvania specific to ensuring students with disabilities, English Learners, and other under-served populations are equitable afforded high-quality integrated computer science instruction.
  2. Identify the connections between grade level standards in Literacy, Math, Science and Technology with the CSTA Standards and CS Framework via PDE's voluntary Universally Designed K-8 Computer Science Curriculum.
  3. List open-source resources and tools (Microprocessors, Robotics, 3D Modeling) to support the CSTA Standards and CSFramework.
  4. Describe how Universal Design for Learning is used to support all students in accessing Computer Science.
  5. Develop a plan to integrate computer science during the 2019-2020 school year.
