You may have seen/heard about audiograms, been told diagnosis for the student's hearing loss, or observed different kinds of amplifications or assistive devices used in classrooms. So, what does all that mean? How does that understanding about them help you prepare for your work? Take part in this doubly-beneficial opportunity and learn all about this and get your questions answered while watching how these concepts are presented through ASL.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Interpret information from an audiogram related to degree, configuration, laterality, symmetry, and type.
  • List at least three different etiologies for hearing loss likely found in school aged children.
  • Explain the difference between hearing aids, cochlear implants, and bone conduction hearing aids and assistive devices.

Target Audience

Educational Interpreters and Teachers of the Deaf working in Pennsylvania Schools. Educational Sign Language Interpreters and Interveners who provide interpreting services in Pennsylvania K-12 classrooms.Teachers of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing who have at least intermediate American Sign Language Skills.

This year the training will be offered in individual dates to allow for separate registrations.

This workshop will be presented in ASL and given priority to Educational Interpreters who work in Pennsylvania schools. Voiced interpretation will be provided during the presentation; however, no interpretation will be provided during activities in breakout rooms. EIPA Workshops are designed for skilled interpreters able to fully participate in ASL conversations.
