The BrainSTEPS Team Leader Retreat scheduled for Spring 2025 is required for all BrainSTEPS team leaders. This bi-annual workshop aims to ensure that BrainSTEPS team leaders are equipped with the knowledge they need to manage students with acquired brain injuries who are referred to their Intermediate Unit BrainSTEPS team. This retreat will focus on the latest updates and practical applications of the BrainSTEPS program and will gather team leaders to discuss, review, and plan the 2025-2026 implementation of the BrainSTEPS best practices when managing student brain injury cases.
Day 1 will begin with an overview of the BrainSTEPS data for 2024-2025, as well as over time. Team leaders will then review their individual team data for the year and determine strengths & areas of improvement for 2025-2026. The state will recognize teams who achieved the highest BrainSTEPS best practices this past school year. Team leaders will be provided a webinar on the BrainSTEPS STATBI CDC Study and its current data analyses. We will then roll out the new online Brain Injury Support Framework (BISF) to use with all concussion cases, including a walkthrough and case study analysis. After lunch, a comprehensive mock BrainSTEPS case will be reviewed, covering every step from initial parent contact to annual updates. Outreach strategies will be reviewed as well as one team’s peer training.
Day 2, a presentation will be given on acquired vision disorders in students after brain injury, discussing implications and strategies for support. The retreat will conclude with a session dedicated to setting team goals for 2025-2026 based on the latest data and insights gathered throughout the retreat.

- Gain hands-on experience in managing the referral process from start to finish, identifying potential challenges and effective solutions.
