This session aims to provide teams with critical information necessary to develop a plan to implement 9th grade academies. The session will focus on the six elements that comprise the implementation plan: administrative leadership, physical space, faculty dedicated to the academy, teaching teams, instructional practices/climate and data/communication systems. Teams will learn about each of these six components and, using this information, have critical conversations about how to use the information to understand the implementation of 9th grade academies.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- List the six components of establishing a 9th grade academy.
- Evaluate school capacity to implement a 9th grade academy.
- Explain the implications of a 9th grade academy on current practices and potential changes to those practices.
- Describe the challenges and potential barriers to implementation of 9th grade academies as well as potential solutions to those barriers and alternatives.
- Begin the development of a 9th grade academy implementation plan.
