Through the course of the 2021-2022 academic year, school-based teams worked with PaTTAN educational consultants in collaboration with IU consultants to enhance early literacy outcomes. Representatives from Foot of Ten Elementary School in the Hollidaysburg Area School District join PaTTANpod to share their journey and the positive student outcomes they were able to achieve through their dedicated efforts. About the District The district consists of approximately 480 employees: 260 teachers, 22 administrative/supervisory staff, and 195 support staff. Roughly 3,200 students attend the Hollidaysburg Area School District in grades K-12. There are three K-6 elementary buildings: Charles W. Longer Elementary, Frankstown Elementary, and Foot of Ten Elementary. The Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School serves students in grades 7-9, and the Senior High School serves grades 10-12. The average graduating class size is roughly 280 students. Hollidaysburg Area School District students can also attend the Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center for career/vocational education, beginning as early as 9th grade. The School Community The Hollidaysburg Area School District is located in the center of Blair County, in central Pennsylvania, approximately 95 miles east of Pittsburgh and 130 miles west of Harrisburg. The district encompasses 120 square miles and comprises the boroughs of Hollidaysburg, Duncansville and Newry, and the townships of Allegheny, Blair, Frankstown, and Juniata. With Hollidaysburg as the Blair County seat, the district has a stable population of approximately 26,500 residents. Foot of Ten Elementary School Foot of Ten is one of three elementary schools in the Hollidaysburg Area School District. It is located in a rural setting on a tract of land that includes recreational facilities used for physical education and recess, as well as an environmental center. The school houses over 540 students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. A professional staff of seventy strong help to develop knowledgeable, lifelong learners, who will be responsible, productive members of society. Foot of Ten falls into the IU08 Footprint and works closely with their professionals as well as PaTTAN to maximize our learning opportunities.
