Creating Accessibility for Students with Visual Impairments Using Computer Applications and iOS App

During the first part of this training participants will be introduced to iOS apps that can be utilized to convert print into an accessible format, such as a PDF. Participants will also be exposed to the accessibility features, annotation items, strengths and potential weaknesses of each app. The second part of this training will focus on introducing participants to the accessibility features available in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat that will create documents that are accessible by screen readers and reading software.
- Participants will be able to demonstrate how to use demonstrated iOS apps to make print materials accessible for students who are blind or visually impaired.
- Participants will be able to distinguish the appropriate iOS apps that will work best for their students who are blind and visually impaired.
- Participants will be able to demonstrate how to utilize tools in applications to create accessible documents
Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Supervisors of Programs Serving Students with Visual Impairments, AT TaC, Parents, Material Specialists
Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
