The workshop will present research-based practices and tools to teach and assess writing skills with an emphasis on foundational micro-skills: spelling, sentence structure, sentence formation, sentence combining, and vocabulary. Participants will have the opportunity to practice and apply the strategies presented during the workshop.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Analyze the framework for meeting PA Core Writing Standards
  • Analyze and connect research-based writing practices with an emphasis on foundational micro-skills: spelling, sentence structure, vocabulary and handwriting.
  • Identify how language plays a role in the development of writing skills
  • Identify and apply tools and research-based practices to teach writing to English Learners

Target Audience

Administrators, Literacy coaches, ESL teachers, Content teachers, Special Education teachers, Reading Specialists, Counselors

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
