Secondary Transition

Secondary Transition is the process students go through as they bridge the gap from high school to beyond school-age years. The Secondary Transition process helps students and their families plan for an appropriate and realistic life after high school in a coordinated way. Effective transition programs will provide students who are deaf or hard of hearing, with the necessary skills for positive and productive post-secondary education, career and independent living goals as they move towards adulthood.

Transition planning is essential for students who are deaf or hard of hearing as they experience unique educational and life challenges as a result of their hearing loss. This website, which is continually updated, provides youth, young adults, parents, and professionals with secondary transition resources to facilitate a young person’s progress towards post-secondary goals related to education, employment, and community living.  this website has a explanation of the site and how to navigate is provided in American Sign Language by a student who recently went through the secondary transition process.  Each page has an introduction by the student which is also captioned.  In addition to information valuable to all students and educators in the transition process, this website has resources disability specific for deafness
