Dr. Miles explains how she overhauled the fieldwork requirement of the early literacy graduate and undergraduate courses that she teaches and/or oversees in fall 2020 in order to improve preservice teacher training and foundational skills of striving 1st and 2nd graders from historically underserved schools in NYC DOE. Dr. Miles will explain the research and evidence-based early intervention programs and the implementation approach CUNY Reading Corps has used to scale this initiative to 650 preservice teachers and over 1,200 students served last year, and even more ambitious goals set for this academic year.

This webinar’s focus will include definitions, explanations, and specific discussion of the types of access currently available for use with augmentative communication devices and for other Assistive Technology devices (e.g., computers, iPad, Smartboard). Kathleen Lynne Lane is a Roy A Roberts Distinguished Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. Dr. Lane's research interests focus on designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (Ci3T) models of prevention to (a) prevent the development of learning and behavior challenges and (b) respond to existing instances, with an emphasis on systematic screening. advantages and disadvantages of each to support schools in adopting a behavior screener.
