2018 HELIX Conference

Registration is open! Click here for more information.

The 2nd annual HELIX Conference will take place in State College, Pennsylvania, November 11-14, 2018. In 2017, over 400 educators attended HELIX and engaged in deep learning of the specialized strategies for students with low incidence disabilities. Attendees noted how the sessions helped them think differently about instruction for their students and the connection of ideas across sessions.

This year’s conference will continue to support high expectations for students with low incidence disabilities through encouraging diverse ways of thinking and making connections.

  • The conference will focus on literacy for students with low incidence disabilities through sessions by Lori Geist, Kelly Fonner, and Jessica Trusell.

  • Instructors in a variety of scientific fields from Penn State University will offer a session about access to science instruction for students with visual impairments, while science and mathematics will be explored through sessions that connect alternate eligible content to these content areas.

  • A series of sessions will spotlight best practices in instruction for students who have sustained a traumatic brain injury.

  • Educators and families will find topics of interest through such sessions as the role of the teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, the impact of sensory systems on learning, as well as sessions by the PEAL Center.

  • Our Families to the Max Network will discuss challenging instruction and the importance of sharing our stories.

  • Specialized content sessions on such topics as eye gaze, functional vision assessments, and Perkins Braillewriter will provide unique learning opportunities.

  • Hands-on experiences through a Sunday afternoon session on the AT Maker movement, along with our Keynote by Bill Binko on problem solving and making connections, will be sure to engage all attendees!

This is just a sampling of the professional development opportunities available to educators, administrators, therapists, and families at the 2018 HELIX Conference! Please continue to visit www.pattan.net for updates, and we hope to see you in November!
