First Author Writing Software, developed by Dr. Janet Sturm through an NIH grant, is designed to help teachers teach writing to students with moderate and severe disabilities. Its features, including text to speech, picture and word bank support, and integrated developmental assessment tools, serve as writing scaffolds for emergent and non-writers.

The first webinar will provide participants with a working knowledge of how the First Author Software supports emergent writers in the writing process.The second webinar, provides the opportunity to share examples of student writing and deepen working knowledge of software features. Participants will ask questions and discuss successes and outcomes.
