Despite the increased availability of eye tracking systems and more responsive touchscreens, there are still children for whom scanning is the best selection technique for their needs and skills. The session will cover the decision-making process for scanning, an overview of critical research, as well as the realizations and capabilities of scanning on dedicated systems and mobile-based Apps.

Objectives

  • Learners will be able to identify three different reasons for using scanning with a school aged client
  • Learners will be able to identify the hardware needed to realize scanning on dedicated devices and mobile platforms
  • Learners will be able to list 3 challenges in scanning on mobile devices
