Students Referred for Suspected SLD in the Dyslexia Pilot Program: Where Do We Go From Here?

Session Dates

Monday June 20, 2016 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Closed

The purpose of this training is to provide information about understanding the most salient strengths and weaknesses of the three methods of SLD identification included in the 2006 federal regulations (i.e., Ability-Achievement Discrepancy, Response to Intervention, Pattern of Strengths and Weaknesses); understanding the PSW method and the conceptual similarities among the most widely used PSW approaches; information about how the PSW models differ and the implications for those differences; how to use data from a comprehensive evaluation and PSW analysis to inform SLD identification and intervention; the why and how measurement of specific academic skills and measurement of specific cognitive abilities and processes inform intervention in different ways, and information to gain an appreciation of the fact that academic skill acquisition and development is no more or less important than current cognitive performance in understanding the whole child and how s/he learns and accesses the curriculum.
