How SLP´s Can Best Serve Students with Specific Reading Disorders

Session Dates

Tuesday May 17, 2016 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Closed

Speech Language Pathologists are increasingly called upon to help students who struggle with reading. Since an important underlying cause of reading disorders is phonological awareness, the SLP has the background necessary to assist with these pre-reading skills. To be most effective in helping students with reading disorders, the SLP also needs training in Multisensory Structured Language approaches, to teach the full scope of written language skills.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the characteristics of pre-school children at risk for Learning Differences (LD) and older students presenting the characteristics of LD.
  • Apply the strategies of Multisensory Structured Language Education to students with Learning Differences.

Audience

Practicing Speech/Language Pathologist and reading specialist
