Map It-What Comes Next is an interactive, accessible online transition training developed for deaf and hard of hearing youth. This two day training will walk professionals through Map It and demonstrate how to use it in the classroom with students. The core topics will include preparing students for transition after high school, supporting student development of self-advocacy and self-determination, helping students develop realistic future goals, supporting student led IEP meetings, and compliance with Indicator 13 requirements.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate proficient navigation through the online Map It training program
  2. Summarize key tools and assessments in the Map It program
  3. Identify other pepnet 2 products and resources available to support their work with students
  4. Explain the importance of self-advocacy skills for students and be able to assist students in its development

Target Audience

This training is for teachers of the deaf, transition specialists, vocational rehabilitation counselors, parents and administrators.

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.

Each participant should bring a laptop and, prior to the event, should register for an account at www.pepnet.org under My pn2. **For the 2016-2017 school year, participants will be asked to participate in ongoing data collection and will receive technical assistance to support implementation. h2. Important Information: Pepnet2 will cover the cost of hotel rooms for up to two nights and reimburse mileage for anyone traveling more than 50 miles one way to the workshop. Participants MUST register at one of the hotels listed below AND tell the hotel when registering that they are with Pepnet2. Participants must still provide a credit card to the hotel for incidentals. Anyone reserving a hotel room and not participating in the workshop will be charged for the room. Mileage will be calculated by Pepnet based on the participant’s home address. Participants who live less than 50 miles from the PaTTAN office are not eligible.
