This course will provide professional development focused on the evidence-based practice SIM to support literacy and learning. Educators will be engaged in active learning of the SIM routines and strategies, including the Vocabulary LINCing Routine and the Concept Comparison Routine. The professional development in Learning Strategies to support students in their use of a morphemic analysis approach to predict the meaning of unknown words. Academic focused strategies will be considered for inclusion as needed.

Objectives

Participants will:

• Identify the three components in the featured routines and define them as they relate to that particular routine.

• Identify the components in the lesson-based strategy that supports students’ in developing vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.

• Develop a draft device per each featured routine and strategy and role play co-constructing with peers using a checklist to provide feedback to their peer(s).

• Demonstrate how featured routines and strategies utilize implementation checklists to support Level 2 Fidelity of Implementation micro-credential requirements while engaged in Knight’s IMPACT Cycle.
