This session will focus on the foundational information students, schools, and families need to know during the transition from high school to college and/or career. We will discuss the legal, social, and educational differences between high school and college. The implications of this transition for individuals with autism will be the framework of this session. We will also describe an opportunity for further training on self-determination and self-advocacy for students with autism.

  • Identify legal, academic, and social differences between high school and college
  • Describe how the transition from high school to college may be impacted by autism for individuals on the spectrum
  • Identify strategies for how schools, students, and families can plan for these differences
  • Identify two assessment tools to help with planning for college
