This workshop will examine tools used to facilitate a successful consultation between an early childhood special education service provider and an early childhood teacher. The discussion will include a review of the MEPI process (Maturation, Environment, Peer Support, Intensive/direct intervention) and appropriate intervention strategies to address IFSP and IEP objectives. A matrix planning model that assists partner teachers in seeing opportunities for instruction or intervention and providing them with the information and skills that they will need to address these learning opportunities will be utilized.

Objectives

 Participants will:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to use the MEPI process to prioritize work on children’s IFSP or IEP objectives.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to identify appropriate intervention strategies that address children’s IFSP or IEP objectives.
  3. Complete a curriculum matrix that is useful in identifying opportunities to address children’s IFSP or IEP objectives within the context of children’s daily routines and activities.
