Collaborative Co-teaching Models of Language Development in Multi-tiered Systems of Support

This training will present collaborative/co-teaching models while exploring partnerships between content area teachers and ESL specialists in a K–12 MTSS framework. The presentation will target joint planning, collaborative instruction, and assessment practices, including evidence of language use. As a result, the emergence of teacher leadership will reduce teacher isolation and prevent a disconnected or fragmented ELD program.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify various research-based collaborative/co-teaching models for English learners
  • Analyze collaborative practices of teacher partnerships within MTSS
  • Evaluate current collaborative efforts in case scenarios
  • Develop an action plan to increase collaborative practices in their school context

Target Audience

ESL Teachers, ESL Administrators, Content Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Building Administrators, School Counselors

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
