Alternate Eligible Content for Science: Getting Familiar and Going Deeper

This session will provide an overview of Alternate Eligible Content for Science. Participants will be given opportunities to explore and discuss Alternate Eligible Content for Science within and across grade levels and will use the esssentialization process to examine and develop learning targets using their knowledge of individual students. Resources will be shared to help participants further explore materials and instruction utilizing Alternate Eligible Content for Science.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify the Alternate Eligible Content for Science for grades 4, 8, and 11.
  • Utilize essentialization examples to identify differentiated learning targets for students of varying disabilities.
  • Identify resources to embed Alternate Eligible Content for Science into standards-aligned instruction for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

Target Audience

Special educators, administrators, curriculum coordinators, speech/language therapists, related services personnel

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
