Essentialization of Alternate Eligible Content: Developing Targets and Examples

Participants will be provided intensive training to develop content targets and essentialized examples related to alternate eligible content across a variety of complexity levels. Participants’ fluency and accuracy with the development of essentialized examples will be assessed using competencies found within specialized rubrics. Participants will be expected to review essentialized examples, with accuracy and to provide positive, reflective feedback to assure relevance and consistency among examples.

 

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop essentialized examples using three levels of complexity
  • Demonstrate fluency with use of the ELA and Math rubrics for development and review of examples
  • Develop essentialized examples reflecting relevancy, accuracy and consistency across examples
  • Review essentialized examples accurately and objectively
  • Provide positive reflective feedback when needed to support accuracy of the essentialized example

       

      Target Audience

      Teachers of students eligible for PASA (students with significant cognitive disabilities).

       

      Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.

Additional Info

Prior experience with alternate eligible content and essentialization will benefit participation. As a result of this training, PaTTAN/BSE will be seeking 20 interested individuals statewide to develop examples outside of their work day for compensation. Additional details for application will be provided at the training. Only individuals who take part in this intensive training series will be considered for this work.
