This professional development opportunity will present evidence-based progress monitoring practices and tools for secondary English learners in levels 1-4 in MTSS framework. The emphasis will be on implementing and collecting evidence of learning and language use, aligned to the state-required reclassification criteria and the WIDA Can Do Key Uses. Participants will have the opportunity to practice implementing the tools presented during this session.

Objectives

  • Review the MTSS framework for progress monitoring secondary English learners’ language and academic development.
  • Analyze and connect research-based practices with an emphasis on language use in the content areas.
  • Identify evidence-based tools to implement and collect evidence of language use.
  • Develop and apply a progress monitoring protocol with a focus on English learners’ academic language use.

ESL Teachers, ESL Administrators, Content Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Building Administrators, Counselors

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
