Optimized Inclusive Practices: An Overview of the Framework

The Optimized Inclusive Practices (OIP) Framework is intended to build the capacity of Local Education Agencies to educate students with low incidence and significant cognitive disabilities in the academic and independent living skills necessary for membership, participation and learning in all areas of students’ lives. Educators can use this framework to realize the goal of college, career and community readiness for students with complex instructional needs.
The Framework includes two components:
- Big ideas, concepts and competencies needed to leverage data, systems and practices to effectively educate all students; and
- Assessment Tools designed to support a team of district and school leaders, educators, family members, and possibly students to examine inclusive practices in their school/district in topic areas aligned with the big ideas, concepts and competencies described in the OIP Framework.
At this training session, participants will be introduced to both the OIP Framework and the Assessment Tools to determine how these tools can be utilized to chart a path towards optimized inclusive outcomes for all students.
- Discuss the eight big ideas within the OIP Framework
- Describe the concepts and competencies related to the big ideas
Utilize the OIP Assessment Tools as a means to optimize inclusive practices for all students, including students with low incidence and significant cognitive disabilities
- Describe the requirements for participation in additional PaTTAN-supported OIP training
District Administrators, Special Education Directors/Supervisors, Principals, School Psychologists, General Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, IU TaC, and Related Service Providers
Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
