The Language of Mathematics and English Learners in an MTSS Framework

The workshop will present strategies and tools to enhance teachers’ understanding of language development and their ability to treat the language of mathematics as a resource for learning mathematical concepts in MTSS Framework. Participants will access current resources and explore WIDA research-based practices.

Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Analyze and connect research on effective teaching strategies to support ELs’ language development in the area of mathematics.
  2. Identify and apply strategies to facilitate mathematical discussions.
  3. Apply culturally responsive perspectives and integration of mathematics with the process of language acquisition within the MTSS framework.

Target Audience

Administrators, ESL Coordinators, ESL Teachers, Mathematics Teachers, Special Education Teachers

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
