CVI: Spring Training Past the Basics! Evaluation and Instruction for Every Team Player

Session Dates

Tuesday February 24, 2015 9:00 AM - 1:15 PM
Tuesday March 24, 2015 9:00 AM - 1:15 PM

Closed

This videoconference will provide a comprehensive training for professionals who evaluate and instruct students identified with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). The focus is to increase participants’ consistent implementation of the CVI Range to then interpret and develop instructional programs and interventions with validity, based on Dr. Christine Roman-Lantzy’s 2007 publication, Cortical Visual Impairment: An Approach to Assessment and Intervention. A crosswalk between the application of the CVI Range and current teacher documentation will be conducted. Participants will apply their deepened and refined knowledge, approach, and interpretation of the CVI Range with direct application. Teachers are asked to bring current examples of student IEPs and/or CVI Range. Participants must attend both days to receive continuing education credits.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Complete and interpret a functional vision assessment with a focus on CVI characteristic behaviors
  • Prepare a program plan based on results of the CVI Range
  • Design and implement CVI interventions with validity
  • Define roles and responsibilities of educational team members
  • Contribute to current research and leadership in CVI
  • Discuss available resources for supporting families of students with CVI

Target Audience

Individuals who have previous knowledge and training related to CVI (e.g., Community of Practice Book Study participants; attendance at Low Incidence Summer Institute sessions; individuals who attended CVI Mentor Program but have not implemented the training; participated in other introductory or professional development on CVI): Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments, Teachers of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Early Interventionist, Teachers of Students with Multiple Disabilities, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists.
