This three and one-half day experience is designed to prepare principals and assistant principals to exercise strategic and systematic leadership in inspiring, mentoring and mobilizing faculty and staff to address the learning needs of students with disabilities. Participants will work to design and develop continuous professional learning systems for faculty with a focus on supporting all students, including students with disabilities. During this training experience, principals will understand their need to have a clear vision for their schools that ensures teachers and students meet individual and school goals for improvement. Schools need principals who, as Instructional Leaders, strive for quality instruction in their schools and communicate that to all of their constituents.

The program will focus on three main topics - all with improved instructional and leadership practices at the core:

  • Creating a culture of change
  • Being an instructional leader
  • Ensuring safe and supportive schools

Aside from on-site work, participants are required to complete work prior to the session (readings, interviews, surveys) and homework.

Objectives

Upon completion principals will be able to:

  • Analyze data to identify patterns of behavior
