This day is designed to address programming needs for students with low incidence disabilities. Even though the number of students identified with autism has continued to grow, it still falls within this category. Special ed leaders will learn strategies to share with their staff who teach students who have autism, or are deaf, blind, or deaf and blind, and/or students who are unable to communicate in typical ways.

 

Objectives

 

Participants will be able to:
  1. explain why collaboration is necessary and when to use effectively with stakeholders
  2. identify different options for successful communication
  3. describe typical areas of need for students with autism spectrum disorders
  4. share current information about educational, instructional, and assistive technologies with their staff

 

Target Audience

This training is specifically designed for special education administrators who have been accepted into the Special Education Fellowship Program.

 

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
