Participants will engage with an overview of formative assessment practices and examine the implication of those practices in the context of reading comprehension and mathematics instruction. They will come to understand the purpose of formative assessment, particularly as it applies to students with diverse learning needs.

Objectives

  • Describe the purpose of formative assessment, particularly as it applies to students with diverse learning needs
  • Use tools (e.g., ELFA, ReadReady) to interpret student learning evidence and help improve students’ reading or mathematics skills
  • Explain the role of student misconceptions in the design and analysis of questions intended to evoke them in the context of classroom discussions
