Using Remote Technology in the Speech Room for Physical Distancing and Paperless Therapy

Speaking: Carolyn Kobelak

Covid-19 presented challenges to the delivery of services in an ethical and evidence-based manner. One setting presented the following specific challenges: • Speech Room too small to distance 6+ feet • No materials sharing between students; (mandate) • Clean after each student (no paper) • Visualizing student/therapist face • Lesson planning for multiple frameworks • Accommodate both in-person and remote students The framework discussed demonstrates how these challenges were overcome by using technology to broadcast/zoom therapy sessions to the student(s) physically distanced from the therapist in person while concurrently serving remote students seamlessly. Specific adaptations of material and reinforcement activities is demonstrated.
