Supporting Students in Reading Growth and Achievement (Part 1)
Speaking: Dr. Cynthia Goldsworthy
The ability to proficiently read, whether it be fiction or non-fiction, is the gateway to future success in a student's chosen post-secondary pathway. This session will provide background information on both the importance of direct and explicit instruction in the area of reading (ELA: English Language Arts), the challenged faced by students at-risk for reading proficiency and most importantly, will provide an overview on how instruction may be tailored to meet the needs of students during their AEDY placement. Discussion around grade level PA Core Standards and the scaffolding and the differentiation required for many students will be emphasized.
