Pairing Learning Media and Assistive Technology to Ensure Access for 21st Century LearningHandout

This session moves past the traditional Learning Media Assessment (LMA) components to feature a newly
developed inventory tool which streamlines learning media with assistive technology considerations into one
comprehensive approach. This tool, the Learning Media and Assistive Technology Inventory (LMATI) Form, is a
product from the Pennsylvania Advisory Committee on Education of Students Who Are Blind or Visually
Impaired (PACES-BVI). Participants will be introduced to each component of the LMATI form and guided
through a process to interpret data gleaned. Emphasis will be placed on how to progressively plan to
increasingly meet complex access needs for current and future academic success.

Speakers' Bios: Dr. Lynn Fox
has just recently moved to the Western PA School for Blind Children as their new Director of Professional Development. She has taught for over 20 years in special education, with an emphasis in blindness and visual impairment. Past work experience has included serving as an Educational Consultant at PaTTAN Pittsburgh as well as being the program coordinator and instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s (Pitt) Vision Studies Program. Lynn previously had provided direct services to students with visual impairments as a TVI and certified O&M specialist (COMS) at a local intermediate unit and early intervention agencies.
Jennifer L. Edgar, M.S. COMS
, holds a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University, and Master’s Degree in Orientation and Mobility from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She serves as an Educational Consultant with the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network in Blind and Visual Impairment.
is an Educational Consultant for Pennsylvania Training and Technical Network (PaTTAN) in the central region. His focus is on Blindness and Visual Impairment, Deaf-Blind, and Assistive Technology initiatives. As part of his PaTTAN duties, he is the State Coordinator for the National Instructional Materials Access Center (NiMAC) and Ex Officio Trustee for Pennsylvania’s Federal Quota program. Doug serves on the board for the Penn Del Chapter of AER.
