Session 3C - Using a Collaborative Approach to AAC to Achieve Team Buy-In

Session Description:
Without ample support and collaboration across environments, AAC abandonment can occur. This session will focus on strategies for getting caregiver and professional buy-in by utilizing a collaborative approach. Attendees will be empowered with research-based information, tips, and strategies to effectively implement AAC as a team across multiple settings.
 
Objectives:
  • Identify barriers to or misconceptions about AAC introduction and how to overcome or avoid them.
  • Describe similarities in language development between typical language development and language development for AAC users.
  • List two best practice strategies in AAC implementation.
Speaker Bio:
Daniéle Raneri, M.A. CCC-SLP, is a graduate of the University of Maryland – College Park, where she obtained her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. As an AAC Consultant with Talk To Me Technologies, Daniéle helps to assess technology and access methods for clients’ needs during evaluations for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). In addition, Daniele plays an active role in supporting and training families, caregivers, and other related professionals on AAC implementation and use.
