This interactive training session introduces participants to the NCPMI (National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations) approach for promoting friendship skills in young children. Participants will explore evidence-based strategies for helping children build positive peer relationships, including responding to greetings, cooperating with others, being kind, and social interactions with partners. Through hands-on activities, video examples, discussion, and shared lesson plans/resources, attendees will learn how to integrate friendship skills instruction into daily routines and classroom environments. This training supports the development of social-emotional competencies essential for school readiness and lifelong success.
Objectives
Participants will:
- Identify and explain how to teach at least two friendship skills to young children
- Describe and explain how to embed at least two friendship skills into ongoing classroom routines.
- List at least one resource to share with families to support the development of friendship skills.
Target Audience
Infant Toddler and Preschool Early Intervention Service Coordinators, Evaluators, Service Providers, Educators, Therapists and Home Visiting/Family Support staff.
