Technology In Context: Aligning Speech-Language Interventions with Research-Based Methods

Speech and Language Pathologists strive to employ research-based practices in our interventions. Technology can serve as a key resource in our toolkit to align best practices with visual and interactive tools to engage our clients while targeting specific clinical objectives. This course will review the American Speech Language Hearing Association’s model of Evidence- Based Practice and provide examples and activities aligning research supported practices with technology tools. The workshop will focus on feature analysis and matching of tool capabilities with possibilities in intervention activity development. Specific intersections of research and practice will focus on language intervention areas across the grade levels including play skills, syntactic development, vocabulary and word retrieval, complex sentence formulation, narrative and expository discourse, and social skill development.
Participants will be able to:
- Describe ASHA’s EBP model and potential intersections with technology resources
- Identify three relevant research studies in language interventions and app-based contexts for applying specific therapy techniques
- Analyze three technology resources according to feature-based criteria and potential for use aligning with research-based practices
Individuals attending this workshop must arrive on time and stay the duration of the workshop in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours.
